Jump to Comments I don’t think anyone actually reads this blog. Whatever.

Anyhow, i get this email today, about this McNair Scholars program. I’m gonna throw up some quotes and commentate on it with some Lil’ Jon catchphrasage.

Have you ever considered going to graduate school after you complete your bachelor’s degree?
YEAH
Would you like to be a college professor some day?
OKAY
If you answered “Yes” to either or both of these questions, you will be interested to know that you are one of a small group of Harding students who may be eligible to be considered for the McNair Scholars Program, a federally funded grant program that began at Harding in January.
WHAT? OKAY
The McNair Scholars Program is designed to assist students in preparing for graduate school, specifically Ph.D. programs. It provides the opportunity to do undergraduate research with a faculty mentor, to attend research conferences, to travel to research universities, to receive extensive preparation for the Graduate Record Exam, and to participate in a variety of workshops and activities designed to enhance preparation for graduate school. The program is multi-disciplinary and includes students from a wide variety of majors.
YEAH
The McNair Program at Harding has been funded for 22 students, and 17 students are already enrolled. We must choose our remaining 5 students before September 30! To be considered, you must meet certain eligibility requirements and you must be willing to commit at least one summer to a research internship.
OKAY
Who is eligible for this program? The McNair Program is open to students who:
-are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
YEAH
-have completed at least one year of college with a GPA of 2.75 or above
OKAY
-are low income (as determined by federal guidelines) and first generation (parents/guardian did not graduate from college) or are members of minority groups underrepresented in graduate schools
WHAT?
WHAT?
WHAT?

America stinks.

  • LOL, Lil Jon has to have the richest career in music for the smallest amount of material. bugs the hell out of me.

  • Actually, Becky, the real thing he does is the backbeat — you know, the DJ turntable work. Or, nowadays, the splicing, compiling, and mixing of samples on some studio workstation, I guess.

  • I think Affirmative Action has more than made up for the slights (real and imagined) of the less fortunate. Enough!! This is reverse discrimination.

  • Ben-

This is a great opportunity and you’ve done a masterfull job in clearly communicating the stupidity of the design of this “Scholarship”.

The silver lining here is that there may be a program in place for which this special scholarship provides financial support for.

How does one go about checking that out?

Now about the scholarship, it’s likely that the required paperwork and related complance details would no doubt be like boat anchor around your neck any who.

    Dear Ben,

I am writing this to say:

    1) I do read, still.
    2) I often write a reply.
    3) I rarely (i.e. not in the last 4 weeks?) submit a reply, ever since you’ve instated the policy of “I will not accept replies until I have read through them.”

I will play by your rules or by none, but regardless, I do continue to enjoy reading the very first blog from our ZCHS circle of friends blog community. :p ^_^

And wow … double the parental unit replyage.

I see now that you have since disabled that silly feature. Hooray, hoorah, let there be much rejoicing and little to no cold fingers or pillows placed into blenders. Definitely no pillows in blenders.

(expect the original amount of Nazz replies in the future, provided you continue to keep that feature disabled)

  • Yeah, I have MT-Blacklist for 3.x so if there’s any more spammage, it’ll be much easier to exponge.

  • My response?

    OKAY! 🙂
