You may have wondered why there’s not been much activity on this blog for the past few months.
Well, in short, I’ve had to update the backend several times recently and have been reluctant to make new stylesheets. However, I’m finally just about done. Have a preview image. Of course, you’ll have to have the futura typeface installed to have it look that nice, I think a good multilingual version if it runs at about 25 bucks on myfont; since futura (along with helvetica) is probably the most important typeface of the 20th century, you might as well get it. Or not, whatever.

I saw the Futura font and my immediate thoughts were of MOCR, of Henry Kissinger, of federal telegrams and memos.
But then I realized that most of the White House memos were written using good ol’ Courier, so I ask myself, where have I seen Futura besides The Onion?

Futura and Gill Sans were one of the standard sanserif typefaces for the bulk of the 20th century. Univers, Helvetica, and Frutiger were also common after midcentury. All of these are pretty instantly recognizable, even if you’ve never head their names.
