Ben’s Coding; if you need him, call x8798

Jump to Comments Or so reads my whiteboard on my door. What’s a Spanish / International Studies major doing coding? And what’s with the phone bit?

Well, the latter can be easily explicated by copious amounts of externality deprivation via loud music, but the first’s more complicated. I was working on adding some new functionality to GIOS, my Litestep theme (if you have no idea what this means, too bad), when I was talking to someone else and not paying attention to what my hands were doing to the keyboard. Now, embedded somehwere in seemingly endless lines of code for GIOS V0 Build 3.1 Alpha2 is a random keystroke. And that random keystroke must be in a critical place, or something, because it now makes the entire thing unloadable.

Oh well, I’m using this as an excuse to upgrade to the new version of Litestep, 0.24.7RC1, and the new OTS2 theme standard. So, looks like this weekend will be me sitting in front of my computer, figuring out how OT2 is supposed to be written and kludging together GIOS V0 Build 4.0. Blaugh.

Oh, also, the lower elemetary students over at the Academy presented their spring play or whatever for us in the stead of chapel today. Texas/coboy theme. Being from Texas (ho!), I must say that it was a work of absolute beauty. XD XD XD XD

Snippet of a song they sang (on Pecos Bill):
Once a band of rustlers stole a herd of cattle,
But they didn’t know the herd they stole was Bill’s.
And when he caught them crooked villains,
Pecos knocked out all their fillin’s,
And that’s the reason why there’s gold in them thar hills.

(Yippee-ai-ay)
(Yippee-ai-oh)

Pecos lost his way while travelin’ through the desert,
It was ninety miles ‘cross the burnin’ sand.
He knew he’d never reach the border
If he didn’t get some water,
So he got a stick and dug the Rio Grande.

  • Is GIOS entirely your own creation? Or is it maintained by you and someone else? Do you have it listed on the litestep theme site? Being back in Windows and away from my beloved Fluxbox, I have started thinking about turning to litestep for some aesthetic pleasingness on my desktop…

  • GIOS is entirely mine. It’s never been on a theme site, though, since it’s never been fully functional.

I hate giving release dates for GIOS, since they never happen, but I’m looking forward to having Build 4 at least operational by the end of this weekend. I doubt I’ll have any documentation written by then, though. However, if you’re interested, when I get it serviceable I’ll take you through getting the newest version of LS and everything.

w00t Ben, OTS2! finally… ๐Ÿ˜€ Winterfest was fun, in case you wanted to know. I think you should come next year as a chaperone.. Kelly was there. Well, maybe the year after because next year the girls have the chalet. Good luck with GIOS

  • Because nobody reads your forum (except for one recent spammer, who I dealt with rather quickly, if “dealing with spammer” can be equated to “Who are you? O.o”) … as I was saying, because nobody reads your forum, I am resigned to post this grievance here. ๐Ÿ˜‰
