Food Blog: 22 OCT

Jump to Comments Breakfast: Oatmeal.

So basically it’s freezing in the classrooms here at the Palazzo. What better to warm me up than some tasty oatmeal? I found some — not instant, and not even the “standard” fast-cooking oats, but like old-school 7-10 minutes in boiling water style (from Quaker Oats UK) at Asia Market, and some brown sugar to go with it a few nights ago. So, during our fifteen minute break I trudged up to the top-floor to make some in the kitchen. Sure, it took twenty minutes to cook and eat, but apparently class didn’t actually start until about five seconds before I walked back in.

Anyhow, it was so totally worth it. Even if cooking oatmeal looks like a Discovery special on the hot mud pits at Yellowstone.

lunch:
  • Lasagna with “red radish” (as if there’s any other) and Soft White Cheese #3 (scamorza)
  • Peas with some carrots and maybe a little bit of pig
to drink: aqua frizzante — san benedetto small plastic

Had lunch with Alex, standing up, at Caffè Ricchi. Honestly these were about the best peas I’ve ever had because they’d been cooked in some sort of oil and seasonings so they didn’t really taste like peas anymore. We saw Chiara and Claire there, too. They just got coffees, though.

So the whole point of my writing this food blog is basically thus: when adjusted for the exchange rate, my lunch cost roughly the same amount as all those lunches Alex and I had at Midnight Oil, so I pointed it out, along with the fact that we were getting more bang for our euro regarding amount-of-food. Alex then proceeded to note that additionally, instead of having to look at College Church when we left the coffee we instead got to see Santo Spirito. I enjoyed this sentiment extremely. dinner:
  • crostini alla toscana — toast with liver pâté served with a side of arugula, honey, Soft White Cheese #1 (I don’t remember its name, thats why they have these numbers see) and candied spicy apricot bits (wow)
  • Ravioli alla ragù
to drink: aqua frizzante — blue metallic lable 500 ml glass

Dinner with yours falsely at Borgo Antico. It was good, but it was not 25 euros good. It’s really hard to eat cheap at night in this part of town, though (besides getting a kebab), and I didn’t want to go anywhere far away just by myself. Next time I’ll just go get a kebab. EDIT: This doesn’t have anything to do with food, but they’ve turned the heating on in the building, which is great, and also there is the faint smell of burnt toast that only old radiators make. EDIT: Fixed the entry for lunch, something happened and a paragraph got replaced by a cedilla.

  • I think we should compare our October 22nd meals because I’m really jealous.

    Breakfast: 1 Equate Complete Multivitamin

I realized that here at college, there is no nutrition, so rather than eat nothing for breakfast, I bought 130 tablets of these.

Lunch: 1 Chicken black bean burrito with cheese, pico de gallo, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole.

From the burrito place. With it I get tortilla chips and salsa. Pretty good– except it sucks. I always drink water now

Dinner: A tossed salad with cucumber, cheese, croutons, and bleu cheese dressing; 3 chicken tenders (that’s what they had beside a burger) and fries.

    Gay.
