Rede is a dialect word (Eltame) for church (als.geded.an, 'with.gathering.hall').

An original circular structure was at this site as early as -400, the load-bearing portions of the dome were completed -37. This building was heavily damaged by fire in dk 26, and was refurbished with [[whitestone]] and copper roofing by dk 40. At this point the inner porch was added, and a bell cupola replaced the roof's occulus. Further rennovations added a small one-storey nave (chezian word (like a boat)) in dk 120 to accomodate changes in the worship practices of [[Chezian state religion]]. This nave was later removed in dk 198 because of structural flaws and replaced by a back porch. Again lacking a nave, its use as an active congregational hall declined during the rest of [[Dynasty I]].

Towards the end of Dynasty I Old North Church became increasingly used as a neutral location for intertribal business and record-keeping, [[Dynasty II Initiant]] granted a charter for a permanent ecumenical (intertribal) council with its seat here. It was at this time that outbuildings were built in the eventual location of the transepts. The original square around Old North Church was mainly filled in at this time.

By the middle of [[Dynasty III]] the building was once again in a state of distress after several fires and exposure to the elements caused by the poor design of the back porch, as well as poorly-dug foundations for the original nave damaging the integrity of the Eltame cliff face. A signifcant rebuilding effort of the entire neighborhood was undertaken, lasting from 821 to 854. The outbuildings were removed and replaced by transepts. A new, much larger nave was build extending far out over the cliff face, above a library and offices accessed from the [[Eastern Shore]]. The old outer porch was added at this time to balance the façade. The entire structure received a coherent veneer of [[whitestone]] accented with narrow black stripes, this along with the ornamental colonnade on the outside of the rotunda were designed by architect [[Nicoronsky Venotetiadsky]]. At this time the square was redeveloped to its current dimensions.
